It sits at an elevation of 497 metres (1,630 feet), and has a maximum depth of 5.8 metres (19 feet), flanked by \u003Ca href=\"/wiki/Dodd?action=edit\u0026amp;redlink=1\" class=\"new\" title=\"Dodd (page does not exist)\"\u003EDodd\u003C/a\u003E (641m), \u003Ca href=\"/wiki/Red_Pike?action=edit\u0026amp;redlink=1\" class=\"new\" title=\"Red Pike (page does not exist)\"\u003ERed Pike\u003C/a\u003E (755m), and \u003Ca href=\"/wiki/High_Stile?action=edit\u0026amp;redlink=1\" class=\"new\" title=\"High Stile (page does not exist)\"\u003EHigh Stile\u003C/a\u003E (806m), forming a circular ridge around an expansive basin. It is a pretty tarn set in a hanging valley, created by ice action. Although this is a \u003Ca href=\"/wiki/Tarns_of_the_Lake_District#Cirque_tarns\" title=\"Tarns of the Lake District\"\u003Ecirque tarn\u003C/a\u003E, it doesn\u2019t bear all the typical features of one. It is moraine-dammed but to what extent is not fully understood. It is deepest near the centre, and steepest at the north-west, falling around 3 metres in 7\u00bd from its margin.
