At the southern end of Derwentwater the visitor will find themselves on the flood plains near Grange in Borrowdale. The fells have a sense of grandeur and splendour. This is quite an exposed site so in less clement weather, the wind and the cold can be more severe.
From the B5289 there is a gravel path that heads west towards the River Derwent foot bridge. This effectively marks the half-way point on the 10 mile circular route around the lake. This is great place to spend a few minutes rest, maybe have picnic and chill, taking in the fine views on offer in every direction.
At the time this photo was taken, the weather was just perfect and we were lucky to time it right with a group of goslings as they meandered on by. Apart from a group a school kids in wet suites jumping off the foot bridge (under supervision of course), it was quite serene. Definitely worth a few minutes of your time here to take a few photos and if you're feeling up to it, dip your feet in the River Derwent, especially on a hot day.
