Scale Head Tarn is situated on the rolling hills of Claife Heights, opposite the picturesque Wise Een Tarn. It is accessed by the ancient track, the present-day path between Near Sawrey and High Wray. There is a concrete and stone wall dam that retains the water, which is overgrown with sedge and pondweed.[1] It is relatively small, around 2 metres (6.5 feet) deep, and a haven for wildlife in its serene and natural state. If this was used for other purposes, there are no signs of it now.
