This is part of the Derwentwater 10 mile circular route around the lake. This is about half along the section that runs parallel with the B5289. The path rises and narrows a little but is by no means technical. Having the road only a few metres away means those who do not wish to walk this section, which is about ⅓ of a mile, can use the B5289 footpath instead. This is an easier option during the winter months due to higher water levels making some of the lower sections unsafe.
As seen in this photo, this part of the route drops down to the shoreline and continues until it opens up at Ashness Gate ferry landing stage and Barrow Bay. Should anyone wish to continue their journey cross-lake, they can do so from here.
There is shingle beach at Barrow Bay. There is a small, free car park nearby.
