Here is a beautiful cumbrian farmhouse set amongst the backdrop of Walla Crag from Strandshag Bay. To the right of the photo is Lord's Island. It is here that the Earls of Derwentwater had a manor-house and tradition has it there was a drawbridge to the mainland. Whether this was a fortification or purely aestheic opulence is anyone's guess, but it is a local tradition that most likely didn't exist. Even if it did it would have been an imposing sight. All traces of the manor house are gone with the exception of some foundations. A great way to access the island and investigate is by canoe, just leave no trace you were ever there.
The sweeping curves of Strandshag Bay are adjascent to Friar's Crag and offer wide open views across Derwentwater towards Cat Bells and Causey Pike, including St Herbert's Island and Rampsholme Island. This is the perfect place for skipping pebbles.
