File on The English Lakes

Original file(4,032 × 2,268 pixels, file size: 10.61 MB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

After Friar's Crag and following the easy-going, waymarked gravel path for about ten minutes, you pass a farmhouse, seen in this photo. The view opens out onto this straighter section of beach at the southern end of Strandshag Bay, with Cat Bells (451m), Maiden Moor (575m) and Causey Pike (637m) seen across the lake. The slate shingle beach runs parallel with the path after the farmhouse offering amazing views of the entire western and southern part of the lake. At the right of this photo, the southern tip of Lord's Island can be seen. Centre-left is St Herbert's Island and left is Rampsholme Island. Continuing along the beach will bring you out at Calfclose Bay, where the Hundred Year Stone is located.
