File:Bowder Stone and Borrowdale.jpeg

File on The English Lakes

Original file(2,560 × 1,553 pixels, file size: 4.41 MB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Summary

A real photo sepia postcard from the Pettitt Prize Medal Series, produced by Alfred Pettitt, based in Keswick. The postcard is numbered 216, and is unused.

Titled "Borrowdale & Bowder Stone", this postcard shows the boulder from the north looking south, with fine views across the Borrowdale Valley. The old road that runs alongside the boulder and Bowderstone Cottage was once the main road through the valley. Smoke coming from the chimney of the cottage shows there was still residency at the time this photo was taken. Today, the boulder is almost surrounded by trees.
